Acura Air Intake Systems

The modern internal combustion engine is in essence a powerful air pump. Like exhaust systems, air intake systems must be carefully engineered and tuned to provide the greatest efficiency and flow. A good intake system should increase the velocity of the air traveling to the combustion chamber, while minimizing turbulence and restriction of flow. This is usually accomplished by flow testing on a flow bench in the port design stage. Cars with turbochargers or superchargers which provide a pressurized intake system, usually have extensive tweaking of the air intake system to improve performance dramatically.

The modern air intake system should have three main parts, an air filter, mass flow sensor, and throttle body. Many cars today now include a silencer to minimize the noise entering the cabin. Silencers impede air flow and create turbulence which reduce total power, so many performance enthusiasts often remove them.

Production cars have specific length air intakes to cause the air to vibrate and buffett at a specific frequency to assist air flow in to the combustion chamber. Car companies have introduced larger throttle bodies and air filters to decrease restriction of flow at the cost of changing the harmonics of the air intake for a small net increase in power or torque.

Acura air intake systems allow your Acura to breathe easier providing more horsepower and greater gas mileage. Acura air intake systems have different styles from which to choose including open element car air intake systems, sealed car air intake systems, and ram car air intake systems.

Open Element Acura Air Intake Systems:
Open element air intake systems provide a reusable air filter, tube, and couplers replacing the factory components from the air box to the throttle body. Losing the air box gains access to all the air surrounding the engine providing more air yielding better gas mileage and more horsepower.

Sealed Air Acura Intake Systems:
The sealed air intake systems relies on changing the stock filter and tubing along with using or replacing the stock air box. Replacing the factory air box prevents exposing air intake systems to the hot engine air which can result in a horsepower loss. Sealed car air intake systems add walls and use the hood of the vehicle as the lid. Sealed air intake systems are becoming more common and bring more horsepower along with better gas mileage.

Ram Air Acura Intake Systems:
The ram air intake system market is smaller due to the risk of water exposure and debris blockage, but the ram air intake provides a great benefit of pulling in fresh air. Ram air intake systems are not exposed to the car engine heat. The tubes are usually longer and create more torque than horsepower. The longer the tube the more torque, the shorter the tube the more horsepower. Even though Ram air intake systems are small market, they have a style and function that only ram air intake system has.

Air-Intake-Direct carries a large variety of air intakes to fit your Acura. Most kits comes with a filter.
